Legislative Advocacy
Has your team invited an elected official to your shop, school, meeting place? Have you invited them to come to see you in a competition to learn more about FIRST and the amazing opportunities FIRST provides your students?
First – Find your legislator
Send an email or written invite to them. Make sure to provide all your dates for competitions. Legislators are busy, and the more dates you give, the more likely they will visit.
Here is a template you can use.
Make sure to thank them for their time. Take plenty of pictures, post to social media, and share them with us!
Don’t hesitate to reach out to FIRST Indiana Robotics Chris Osborne cosborne@firstindianarobotics.org if you have questions about what to discuss with legislators, what to ask for, or what to support. Remember, this isn’t about politics. This is about getting more access to hands-on, mentor-based STEM programs for ALL Hoosier children. This isn’t about money for FIRST or FIRST Indiana Robotics.

Student Registration
This year youth registration is a bit easier. Here is a link to the FIRST website with directions. The good news is that parents will be able to accept the FIRST Consent and Release AND the FIRST Indiana Robotics Consent and Release at the same time. No more logging back in after being accepted on the team.
We need ALL teams to do the online youth registration this year for privacy protection reasons.
If you need help with this process, don’t hesitate to reach out to Chris Osborne – cosborne@firstindianarobotics.org with questions. We know there are parents and students without internet or emails.
We had great participation last year. I know a few of you mentioned having trouble with parents or students not having an email address. Here is a solution that other teams have done.
Create a team gmail: frc9999@gmail.com
Then for a parent or student without email put frc9999+parentname@gmail.com Gmail will ignore anything after the “+” sign, but the first system will see it as a unique email address.
You can use this for students as well. They typically have emails within the school district (if you are a school based team.)
FIRST and FIRST Indiana Robotics are dedicated to protecting the privacy of our students and mentors. That is why online registration and not paper registration needs to be completed this year.
